Now for the matters you wrote about. – 1 Corinthians 7:1 (NIV)

Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift (charisma) as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.

– 1 Corinthians 1:7 (NIV)

Now there are varieties of gifts (charismata), but the same Spirit. – 1 Corinthians 12:4 (NASU)

I’m gifted (v.7)

A SPIRITUAL GIFT: Is a special ability, given by the Holy Spirit to every believer at their conversion (or after), to be used to minister to others and therefore build up the Body of Christ

(Rom. 12:6-8, 1 Cor. 12:1-11, 27-31, Eph. 4:11-12, 1 Pet. 4:9-11)

…he has given each one of us a special gift (charis) – Ephesians 4:7 (NLT)

The Holy Spirit decides what

Gifts are given: not or (v.11)

All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.

– 1 Corinthians 12:11 (NIV)

The Body as an Illustration: (vv.12-24)

The Church is an not an (v.12)

“Baptized into one body” means (v.13)

For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that our fathers were all under the cloud and they all passed through the sea; and they all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea

My gifts reveal (vv.14-20)

In the Body of Christ it’s not , but (v.21)

Gifts are given to not to (v.25)

Why use my gift? When I use my gift

…from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

Unity of the Body, Diversity of the Gifts (vv.26-31)

Context: Gifts that minister to (vv.28-29)

And God has appointed in the church, first apostles (apostolos), second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts (charismata) of healings, helps, administrations, and various kinds of tongues. (v.28) (NASB)

First: proton – firstly (in time, place, order, or importance (OTESD)

Apostles: Those to be for a

Apostles: apostolos – one sent forth (Vine’s, ISBE, Smith’s)

As for Titus, he is my partner and co-worker for you; as for our brothers, they are apostles (apostolos) of the churches, the glory of Christ. – 2 Corinthians 8:23 (NAB)

In verse 28 we are reminded: …various kinds of tongues (NASB)

The Context: Not all will have the gift of Tongues that God will use to minister to

(Pentecost) All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them… (The crowd responds) Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language? – Acts 2:4&8 (NIV)
