…He went out and noticed a tax collector named (onoma) Levi sitting in the tax booth, and He said to him, “Follow Me.” – Luke 5:27 (NASB95)

 As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called (lego) Matthew, sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him. – Matthew 9:9 (NASB95)
















For Matthew, meeting Jesus means

 (John the Baptist) looked at Jesus…and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!”  37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. – John 1:36-37 (NASB95)
















And they came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, behold, He is baptizing and all are coming to Him.”…(John the Baptist) He must increase, but I must decrease. – John 3:26-30 (NASB95)
















In Luke 5, John is in prison, John’s ministry is

He (Herod) shut up John (the Baptist) in prison. – Luke 3:20 (KJV)

John’s Disciples: Should be following

John’s Disciples with the (v.30)

John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting… – Mark 2:18 (NASB)

Not Following Jesus we find John’s Disciples: Trying to keep a going

John’s Disciples won’t of what God in the so they will miss what God is doing

John’s Disciples are critical of God is reaching (v.30)

The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Look at him! A glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Yet wisdom is justified by all her children.” – Luke 7:34-35 (ESV)

Jesus’ Disciples:

Were taught that people (vv.31-32)

(v.33) “…John’s disciples often fast and pray…but yours go on eating and drinking.” – Luke 5:33 (NIV)
