IN THE WAITING

May 10, 2020 / 6:

“…through faith and patience inherit the promises.” Hebrews 6:12b (NASB)

Patience is with God while He turns things into things that lead us to things.

A warning regarding impatience…

7 For ground that drinks the rain which often falls on it and brings forth vegetation useful to those for whose sake it is also tilled, receives a blessing from God; 8 but if it yields thorns and thistles, it is worthless and close to being cursed, and it ends up being burned. Hebrews 6:7–8 (NASB)

Impatience .

The marks of living with patience and faith…

9 But, beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that accompany salvation, though we are speaking in this way Hebrews 6:9 (NASB)

Patience God is today.

πείθω; πεποίθησις, εως f: to believe in something or someone to the extent of placing reliance or trust in or on—‘to rely on, to trust in, to depend on, to have (complete) confidence in, confidence, trust.’

God is working on our character…
5 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:5–8 (NAS)

God is working to help us clarify our call…

“Again Jesus said, Peace be with you!  As the father has sent me, I am sending you.” John 20:21 (NASB)

God is working out his timing…
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time. 1 Peter 5:6

10 For God is not unjust so as to forget your work and the love which you have shown toward His name, in having ministered and in still ministering to the saints. Hebrews 6:10

Patience is by God’s faithfulness.

11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence so as to realize the full assurance of hope until the end, Hebrews 6:11

Patience turns into through .

Diligence: σπουδή, (spoude) primarily “haste, zeal, diligence,” hence means “earnest care, carefulness,”

Assurance: πληροφορία, (plerophoria), “a fullness, abundance,” also means “full assurance, entire confidence”; lit., a “full-carrying” (pleros, “full,” phero, “to carry”). Some explain it as full fruitfulness (cf. rv, “fullness” in Heb. 6:11)

But we are strongly desirous that each one of you show the same diligence which will develop your hope into full assurance until the end, (Wuest’s Word Studies In New Testament Greek)

12 so that you will not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:12 (NAS)

Patience follows examples.
