Standing Strong

A problem, a manifestation (v.14)

Then a demon-possessed man who was blind and mute was brought to Jesus, and He healed him, so that the mute man spoke and saw – Matthew 12:22 (NASB95)

 Erastus remained at Corinth, but Trophimus I left sick at Miletus. – 2 Timothy 4:20 (NASB95)

 (vv.15-16)

But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, – Matthew 12:24 (NIV)

 Beelzebub: “Lord of the house”, Baal: Lord, Zebul: Dung 

(vv.21-22)

Fully armed: (athoplizo) – to equip fully with armor (Strong’s)

“Or how can anyone enter the strong man’s house (oikia: ) and carry off his property (skeuos: ), unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house (oikia: ). – Matthew 12:29 (NASB95)

 House: oikia – residence, an abode; by implication a family (Strong’s)

A deacon must be the husband of but one wife and must manage his children and his household (oikos) well.

– 1 Timothy 3:12-13 (NIV)

 Property: skeuos – a vessel, (specifically, a wife as contributing to the usefulness of the husband) (OTESD), goods or household, wife (Vine’s)

 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel (skeuos) in sanctification and honor;

– 1 Thessalonians 4:4 (CWSB)

 Bind: deo (deh’-o) – a primary verb; to bind (in various applications, literally or figuratively) KJV – bind, be in bonds, knit, tie, wind

 When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are secure (in peace [KJV], safe [NIV], undisturbed [NAS]). But when someone stronger than he attacks him and overpowers him, that man takes away his armor on which he had relied and distributes his plunder. – Luke 11:21-22 (NASB)

I am called to be spiritually

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. – Ephesians 6:10-11 (NIV)

Satan’s plan is to get me up in sin

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

 Once “bound” my spiritual armor is making me spiritually (v.22)

 Get

Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed (iaomai). The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much. – James 5:16-17 (NASB95)

Healed: iaomai – to heal, spiritually, restore from a state of sin and condemnation (MCED)

 …let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, – Hebrews 12:1-2 (NASB95)

 Realize: No one is (v.23)

Some are bound by

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. 14Stand firm therefore… – Ephesians 6:12-17 (NASB95)
