Bartimaeus begins as the  (v.35)

Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (that is, the “Son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. – Mark 10:46-47 (NIV)

And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him. And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side – Matthew 20:29-30 (CWSB)

Bartimaeus knew his condition was

He was and he was

…in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. – 2 Corinthians 4:4 (NASB95)

Like many, Bartimaeus is

…say to those with fearful hearts, “Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, He will come with vengeance; with divine retribution He will come to save you.”  Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. – Isaiah 35:4-5 (NIV)
