Feeling Kicked Around?

June 22, 2025 / Pastor Dan Plourde / Luke 19:45-48

When Jesus entered the temple courts, he began to drive out those who were selling. – Luke 19:45 (NIV)

The Temple was designed to (vv.45-46)

23 He said, “O LORD, the God of Israel, there is no God like You in heaven above or on earth beneath, keeping covenant and showing lovingkindness to Your servants who walk before You with all their heart… 27 But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You, how much less this house which I have built! …41Also concerning the foreigner who is not of Your people Israel, when he comes from a far country for Your name’s sake (for they will hear of Your great name and Your mighty hand, and of Your outstretched arm); when he comes and prays toward this house, hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and do according to all for which the foreigner calls to You, in order that all the peoples of the earth may know Your name, to fear You, as do Your people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by Your name.” – 1 Kings 8:23, 27, 41-43 (NASB95)

“For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.” – Isaiah 56:7 (NKJV)

The activities in the Temple will be a  or a to unbelievers (vv.12-13)

He entered the temple and began to drive out those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of those who were selling doves; and He would not permit anyone to carry merchandise through the temple… “My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations (ethnos)? But you have made it a den of robbers.”  – Mark 11:15-17 (NASB)

So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area… – John 2:15 (NIV)

Apparently, Jesus thinks He has the to make  in the Temple as He sees

Effective of the Temple by the Lord comes after hindrances

Once cleansed, the Temple becomes:

A place with renewed

And He was teaching daily in the temple…for all the people were hanging on to every word He said. – Luke 19:47-48 (NASB)

A place of

The blind and the lame (cholos) came to him at the temple, and he healed them…  – Matthew 21:14 (NIV)

A place where people will be able to

“I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.” – Acts 26:17-18 (NIV)

A place where people begin to  (v.14)

Lame: cholos – i.e. limping (KJV) – cripple, lame (OTESD)

(Paul) Mark out a straight path for your feet so that those who are weak and lame (cholos) will not fall but become strong. – Hebrews 12:12-13 (NLT)

Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may walk in newness of life. – Romans 6:4 (NASB)

A place of  enthusiastic

But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant. – Matthew 21:15 (NIV)

There is another heart when the Temple is cleansed

And the chief priests and the scribes heard this, and they began seeking how to put Him to death; for they were afraid of Him, because all the crowd was astonished at His teaching. – Mark 11:18 (NASB)

For we are the temple of the living God…  – 2 Corinthians 6:16 (NASB)

…do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?  – 1 Corinthians 6:19 (NASB95)

…Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. – Matthew 5:16 (KJV)
