…there were many who were appalled at him – his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man and his form marred beyond human likeness – Isaiah 52:14 (NIV)

(The Roman Soldiers) …stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe. And they platted a crown of thorns and put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!  And they spat upon him, and took the reed and smote him on the head. And when they had mocked him, they took off from him the robe, and put on him his garments, and led him away to crucify him. – Matthew 27:28-31 (ASV)

For dogs (Gentiles) have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.  I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me; They divide my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots. – Psalm 22:15-18 (NASB95)

(vv.35-37) All who see me sneer at me; They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying, “Commit yourself to the LORD; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.” – Psalm 22:7-8 (NASB95)

They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall (chole): and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
