August 23, 2020 / Pastor Dan Plourde / 2 Thessalonians 2

Paul writes 1st Thessalonians about after Church started

Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up (harpazo-Greek) rapiemur-Latin Vulgate) together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.

– 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 (NASB)

The Rapture: “The Day of The Lord” (1 Thessalonians 5:2)

For the day of the Lord is near, And it will come as destruction from the Almighty. – Joel 1:15 (NASB)

For the day is near, Even the day of the Lord is near; It will be a day of clouds, A time of doom for the nations. – Ezekiel 30:3 (NASB)

A later Paul writes 2 Thessalonians

They thought they missed the Rapture and were now

in The Day of The Lord: The Tribulation (vv.1-2)

Then Paul reminds them of the two events that come before

The Day of The Lord (The Tribulation)

1. The and/or The

…except there come a falling away (apostasia) first (v.3 KJV)

apostasy: apostasia – a falling away, defection, apostasy (Thayer’s)

the apostasy comes first (v.3 NASU)

Let no man deceave you by eny meanes for the lorde commeth not except ether come a departing fyrst and that that synfnll man be opened ye sonne of perdicion. (Tyndalle 1526)

…excepte the departynge come first, (Coverdale 1535)

…excepte there come a departynge first (Cranmer 1539)

Let no one deceive you in any way. For it will not be, unless the departure comes first,

– 2 Thessalonians 2:3 (WEB)

2. The Antichrist is

…the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction (apoleia),

– 2 Thessalonians 2:3 (NASB)

This means there will be a in Jerusalem (v.4)

(Jesus)“Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains. – Matthew 24:15-16 (NASB)

Forces from him will arise, desecrate the sanctuary fortress, and do away with the regular sacrifice. And they will set up the abomination of desolation. – Daniel 11:31 (NASB)

…he deceives…telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast… And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even speak and cause as many as do not worship the image of the beast to be killed…And he causes all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free men and the slaves, to be given a mark on their right hand or on their forehead – Revelation 13:14-16 (NASB)

(v.6) However, the Antichrist is currently restrained from being revealed

(v.7) “He” who restrains will be

The One who restrains is the in the Church

(We call this the )

(v.8) When the Restrainer is removed

Antichrist will be revealed

(v.8) Antichrist will be “slayed” by Jesus at the end of the Tribulation at the 2nd Coming (Revelation 19:20-21)

The Lie: That the Antichrist is (v.11)
