…for you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light – Ephesians 5:8 (NASB)
Thanks is directed (v.20)
Submission is directed (v.21)
People controlled by the Holy Spirit (v.21)
…submitting (hupotasso) to one another out of reverence for Christ. – Ephesians 5:21 (ESV)
Submit: hupotasso – to place in order, to place under in an orderly fashion (CWSBD)
to subordinate, to obey, be under obedience, submit (OTESD)
Husbands, love (agapao) your wives, even as Christ also loved (agapao) the church, and gave himself for it;
– Ephesians 5:25 (CWSB)
Wives, submit (hupotasso) yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. – Colossians 3:18 (CWSB)
Wives, in the same way submit (hupatasso) yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. – 1 Peter 3:1-2 (NIV)
Three Reasons why Christian Wives Submit to their Husbands:
1. Submission is part of (v.22)
The wives: [subject yourselves] to your own husbands, as to the LORD – Ephesians 5:22 (LSV)
Not submitting isn’t falling as a but as a
of

2. In Creation God made (v.23)
For the husband is the head (kephale) of the wife, even as Christ is the head (kephale) of the church: and he is the savior (soter) of the body (v.23) (CWSBD)
Head: kephale – The head, top, that which is uppermost in relation to something (CWSBD)
But I would have you know, that the head (kephale) of every man is Christ; and the head (kephale) of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God (v.3) For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. (vv.8-9) Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. (vv.11-12) But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God (v.16) – 1 Corinthians 11 (KJV)
3. Marriage is a picture of (vv.23-24)
This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and — the church. – Ephesians 5:32 (CWSB)
…and he is the savior (soter) of the body (v.23) (CWSBD)
Savior: soter – savior, deliverer, preserver (v.23) (OTESD)
