The Sword of the Spirit

Machaira: a

Sword: machaira – “a short sword or dagger (Vine’s)

Romphaia: a

Sword: romphaia – a sabre, i.e., a long and broad cutlass

(any weapon of the kind) (OTESD)

…out of his (Jesus) mouth went a sharp two-edged

sword (romphaia) – Revelation 1:16 (CWSB)

Rhema: a

Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word (rhema) that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

– Matthew 4:4 (NASB95)

Word: rhḗma, to speak. That which is spoken, a statement, word. (CWSB)

Logos: The

Word: lógos – to speak intelligently. discourse, saying, thing,

the Word of God, i.e., the divine doctrines and precepts of the gospel, the gospel itself (CWSB)

For the word (logos) of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword (machaira), and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and quick to discern the thoughts and intents of the heart. – Hebrews 4:12 (ASV)

In the beginning was the Word (logos), and the Word (logos) was with God, and the Word (logos) was God.

– John 1:1 (CWSB)

God gave us His armor so we could (vv.11,13,14)

The Sword of the Spirit (v.17)

…the sword (machaira) of the Spirit, which is the word (rhema) of God – Ephesians 6:17 (CWSB)

Is for when spiritually

Sword: machaira – a short sword or dagger (Vine’s)

God’s Spirit this sword when

Word: rhḗma – to speak. That which is spoken, a statement (CWSB)

Effectiveness in using this sword requires

For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God…For every one that useth milk is unskillfull in the word (logos) of righteousness: for he is a babe. – Hebrews 5:12-13 (CWSB)

It takes to memorize

It takes to make permanent

on the Word (Psalm 1)

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate (hâg̱â) day and night.

Meditate: hâg̱â – to ponder, imagine, meditate, mutter, roar, speak, study, talk, utter. (OTESD)
