Paul reveals Christ from the (vv.2-3)

Surely our griefs (diseases CJB, illnesses NET, Matthew 8:16) He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.  – Isaiah 53:4-6

Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases;  – Psalms 103:3

…because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.

– Psalms 16:10

This church is no more than old

Written to Address Persecution:

…we ourselves speak proudly of you among the churches of God for your perseverance and faith in the midst of all your persecutions and afflictions which you endure  – 2 Thessalonians 1:4

Paul reminds them of God’s

…for our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power (dunamis) and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction;  – 1 Thessalonians 1:5

…the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the miracles (dunamis) which they had seen  – Luke 19:37

Dunamis: force – specially, miraculous power (usually by implication, a miracle itself) (Strong’s)

A Major Theme: The Church in the
– 1 Thessalonians 1:10, 2:19, 3:13, 4:15, 5:23

…and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, that is Jesus, who rescues us from the wrath to come.  – 1 Thessalonians 1:10

Ch. 4 describes the from the to come
Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up (rapiemur- Lat. Vulg.) together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words. – 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18

Let no one in any way deceive you, for it will not come unless the apostasy comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, who opposes and exalts himself above every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, displaying himself as being God. Do you not remember that while I was still with you, I was telling you these things?

– 2 Thessalonians 2:3-6

For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone is not willing to work, then he is not to eat, either. For we hear that some among you are…doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. – 2 Thessalonians 3:10-13

Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances.  – 1 Thessalonians 5:19-20
