April 12, 2020 / 1 Corinthians 10:1-5

 

Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. – 1 Corinthians 10:11 (NASB)

It all begins with God’s people in a situation

…the LORD told him (Moses), “You can be sure I have seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard their cries for deliverance from their harsh slave drivers. Yes, I am aware of their suffering. – Exodus 3:7

They to God and God them

So I have come to rescue them from the Egyptians and lead them out of Egypt into their own good and spacious land. It is a land flowing with milk and honey…You will lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt.” – Exodus 3:7-10

How God Saved His People

The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. – Exodus 12:13

For Christ our Passover also has been sacrificed. – 1 Corinthians 5:7

There was/is one of Salvation for (vv.1-4)

A mixed multitude also went up with them, – Exodus 12:38

Being saved included (2 Chronicles 20)

The Israelites…asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing…and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians. – Exodus 12:35-36 (NIV)

Once they were saved they were

The waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen, and all the host of Pharaoh that pursued them; not even one of them remained. – Exodus 14:28

Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. – Romans 6:4-5

To keep them strong and healthy for the journey God

gave His people “Manna” a picture of (v.3)

He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord – Deuteronomy 8:3 (NIV)

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a day’s portion every day, – Exodus 16:4

Encountering the Rock () is to be perpetually (v.4)

Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock at Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink – Exodus 17:6

He who believes in Me, as the Scripture said, ‘From his innermost being will flow rivers of living water.'” But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; – John 7:38-39

(v.5)

They were and went to Heaven but missed out on all God wanted to do in their because of

Exodus 16:1-3, Exodus 17:3, Numbers 14:2-3

The Lord replied, “I have forgiven them, …Nevertheless, as surely as I live`…not one of the men who saw my glory and the miraculous signs I performed in Egypt and in the desert…not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath to their forefathers.  – Numbers 14:20-23

For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. – Mark 11:23 (NKJV)
