Understanding this parable the parables

And He said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How then will you understand all the parables?  14The sower sows the word (logos)  – Mark 4:13-14 (NKJV)

Given in , explained in (vv.9-10)

As soon as He was alone, His followers, along with the twelve disciples, began asking Him about the parables. – Mark 4:10 (NASB)

Can only be understood by (v.10)

…to you it has been granted to know the Mysteries (mysterion) (v.10)

Mysteries: Mysterion – a secret which would remain such but for revelation (MCED)

This Seed is the (v.11)

Luke lets us know:  this person is or

…so that they may not believe and be saved (sozo). – Luke 8:12-13 (NIV)

Saved: sozo – “safe”; to save, i.e. deliver or protect (KJV) heal, preserve, save, do well, be (make) whole (Strong’s)

…for she was saying to herself, “If I only touch His garment, I will get well (sozo).” 22But Jesus turning and seeing her said, “Daughter, take courage; your faith has made you well (sozo).”  At once the woman was made well (sozo). – Matthew 9:21-22 (NASB95)

Those who had seen it reported to them how the man who was demon-possessed had been made well (sozo). – Luke 8:36 (NASB95)

  1. The heart (vv. 6 & 13)

“In a similar way these are the ones …rocky places,-  Mark 4:16 (NASB95)

(Jesus) They believe for a while, but in the time of testing (temptation [NASU]) (peirasmos) they fall away. (v.13) (NIV)

Testing/Temptation: (peirasmos) trying, testing, temptation (VCED)

Problem: It lacked moisture (v.) (KJV) Solution: 

  1. The heart (vv.7 & 14)

…Worries… (v.14) merimna (through the idea of distraction) (Strong’s)

…and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful – Mark 4:19 (NASB95)

  1. Fruitful Believers: This is (vv.8 & 15)

And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept (receive [KJV]) (paradechomai) it and bear fruit…”  – Mark 4:20 (NASB95)

Accept/receive: paradechomai- to accept near, (by implication) delight in (OTESD)

But what does it say? “THE WORD (rhema) IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART”—that is, the word (rhema) of faith which we are preaching, – Romans 10:8 (NASB)

Word: rhḗma – to speak. That which is spoken, a statement, word. Particularly a word as uttered by a living voice. (CWSBD)

Let us hold fast the profession (homologia) of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised; – Hebrews 10:23 (KJV
