What is God Really Like?

August 14, 2022 / Ephesians 1:1-14

Verses 3-14 are

Ephesians is written to those (v.1)

Blessed (eulogeetos) be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed (eulogesas) us with every spiritual blessing (eulogia) in the heavenly places in Christ – Ephesians 1:3 (NASU)

Every Spiritual Blessing: election, adoption (v.5), grace, forgiveness (v.7), revelation (v.17), wisdom (v.17), the Gospel and the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the primary gift (v.14) and the source of all the others

“Adoption” in the NT refers to the official act of a father who bestows the status of full adulthood on a son of minor status. It is not the taking in of an outsider; it is the placing of a family member into the privileges and blessings of adulthood. This means that even the youngest Christian has everything that Christ has and is rich in grace. (Wiersbe’s)

Adoption is the act of God by which He gives His “born ones” an adult standing in the family. (Bible Exposition Commentary)

I am by God (v.6)

To the praise of the glory of his grace (charis), wherein he hath made us accepted (echaritoo) in the beloved.

Charitoo: To grace, i.e., indue with special honor (KJV)
